Top Nessie
Today's image is very much back to being an emergency blip and so I have reverted to another in my object found in our spare room series - if Shrek can make an appearance (see previous blip 11/07/2024) in such an environment then why not the Loch Ness Monster!
The blurb on the Nessie tag attached to the surely authentic green furred and tam o' shanter behatted creature representation states the following:
"Deep beneath the waters of Loch Ness lives one of Scotland's greatest legends - the mysterious 'Loch Ness monster'.
Although millions have travelled from all over the world only a few visitors have ever seen 'Nessie'.
If you look very hard you may be lucky and Nessie will come up from the depths of the loch to meet you."
The Loch Ness Monster's existence is hotly debated, as decades of searching have all been inconclusive. Since she cannot be reached for comments, here are some top confirmed facts about Nessie:
Robert Kenneth Wilson's famous photo of Nessie taken on 21st April 1934 was not discovered to be a fake until 7th December 1975
An 812 foot deep section of Loch Ness has been dubbed "Nessie's Lair"
Many believe that Nessie is a Plesiosaurus - a genus of extinct, large marine sauropterygian reptile (they could grow up to 12 metres, or 49 feet in length) that is believed to have been common during the Early Jurassic era about 205 million years ago
The first organised search for Nessie was in 1934 when a staff of 20 men were paid £2 a day to be "monster watchers"
As part of a 2005 triathlon included a swim through Loch Ness each participant was insured for £1 million against being bitten by the monster
Though much of the legislation has been repealed, if Nessie were to ever be captured, she might be protected by Scotland's Protection of Animals Act 1812
Other unconfirmed "facts", as suggested by a local website, are said to include:
Nessie greatly regrets her inability to persue her passion for knitting - besides the fact that wool and water don't mix well, the sheep tend to panic when she brings the home for shearing
Her favourite Olympic sport is rhythmic gymnastics - a joy she will sadly never be able to experience, as waving a ribbon may give away her location in Loch Ness
She would never bring this up herself, but Nessie would prefer her moniker to be changed from Loch Ness "Monster" to the less aggressive Loch Ness "Resident"
Some top Nessie "facts" there I'm sure you'll agree! How can you not be a fan of such a charismatically enigmatic and multi-faceted creature? Long live Nessie!
