Wednesday night fever

A quick swim this morning, then market, lunch, and off to the airport to pick S up. The day had started out fine, but I drove through a heavy shower of rain on the busy autoroute, and it was very windy. The plane was late, and S accidentally stood in the queue with all the Brits till someone pointed out he could whiz through the EU line (no queue at all), so it was 40 minutes before we got away. Carcassonne airport now has all the day's planes (four of them) land in one 20-minute time slot, so if you are unlucky enough to be in the last one the queue is massive.

Sadly the deteriorating weather got the better of the planned  soirée holi on the square -- it was moved to the village hall. The coloured powders were nixed as well, such a shame. But there would certainly have been a cleaning problem.

The volunteers of the village social club did a brilliant job of setting up an improvised kitchen and an assembly line to serve 230 people with hamburgers and chips in double quick time. They also handed out fluorescent bracelets to make up for the lack of powder. Then the DJ as usual whipped people into a frenzy by playing all their old favourites. It started to rain at about 10 pm, and it was downright chilly, so the decision to move indoors was definitely justified. I took 87 photos and deleted all but ten of them -- the hall is such an unphotogenic environment. This is the only one that made the cut to be blipped.

We sloped off home just after 11 -- as it wasn't happening outside our door we had a peaceful night's sleep (despite the howling gale outside).
