The Lozarithm Lens

Calne (Thursday 15th August 2024)

I've noticed Joseph Priestley's discovery of oxygen 250 years ago came up on a couple of radio programmes recently. It was discussed on The Infinity Monkey Cage (Radio 4) and on Radcliffe and Maconie (Radio 6 Music) when the whole show had the theme of 'Oxygen'. As he was living and working in Calne at the time there have been various events and murals to mark it. This one is in Phelps Parade just a few shops away from the one I have already blipped.

Lozarithm's Lozarhythm Of The Day:
Albert Hammond Snr - The air that I breathe (1972)
A song about air to link with the theme of 'Oxygen'. This song was of course a big hit for the Hollies in 1974. They had learned it from Phil Everly, who recorded it in 1973, and with whom the Hollies had a strong working relationship. The original version, however, was this one by its author (along with Mike Hazlewood), on his album It Never Rains In Southern California.
