Skunk Cabbage

Bears like to eat it when they emerge from their dens hungry in spring. I didn't know that when I was crouched precariously above a very steep ditch trying to snap a plant portrait.

We drove from Shirley BC to Port Renfrew and Botanical Beach National Park. There's a not very difficult walking trail to Botanical Beach, named for its intertidal pools. The informational signs were informative. We didn't see sea stars until we got back to "our" beach at Point No Point.
