Signs
Apparently I am told only Paris have enamelled street signs like Pickering’s. This is the sign for the street in which we have lived for nearly 40 years. The new enamelled signs have replaced the old and the community group responsible decided to raise funds by auctioning off the old.
Unbeknown to Richard or I our sons thought it would be good to put in a bid for the old Burgate sign as a memento of where they were born and where we have spent most of our married life. Matthew was not happy to be out bid with a lady buying it for her sisters 60th birthday. She apparently lived in the house where it was hung. She parted with £230 plus buyers premium. The sign was not in a very good condition with no paint left on it so the restoration would be quite costly too. This was not the most expensive sign as Look North filmed one going for £320. It’s amazing what price people put on a piece of heritage. I appreciated the sentiment but happy to make do with a photo. Blip is a great record.
