The Tin Coast
We drove down almost to Land's End today and walked some of the Coastal Path through the ruined tin mines. The thumbnail shows The Crowns engine houses at Botallack. This view is so famous, it's on the front cover of my guidebook to Cornwall. But the whole coast is littered wth remnants of the mines - buildings, drainage channels, spoil heaps... Most of the land now belongs to the National Trust and, as well as preserving the mining relics, they are restoring the lamdscape, which is now full of wild flowers, insects and birds. We were thrilled today to hear Chough in the distance and to chat to other walkers who had seen several pairs.
