Afternoon Recital
We attended another organ recital after lunch, the delightfully varied programme was played by three organists: Organ Scholar Ella Bottomley, Evan Cruikshank and Director of Music Brigitte Harris.
The venue was Morningside United Church, regarded as Eric Liddell's place of worship and this window depicting his Olympic victory in 1924 and later life, created by Christian Shaw, was dedicated in 2012. Eric came to fame during the 1924 Olympic Games in Paris, in which he withdrew from his best event, the 100m, because he realised that the heats were scheduled to be run on a Sunday, the Sabbath. Having learned this well in advance he concentrated on training for the 400m, winning with an Olympic and World Record time of 47.6 seconds. There is more information of his life here.
