Strange day…cloudy and cool the whole time and I couldn’t settle to doing anything (whether useful or just interesting or fun). I read the papers and did some meal planning for various future events then went to see a Fringe show called Lorenzo that I’d bought tickets for. I wasn’t sure what to expect-booked it a while ago as I think I’d heard good things about it but couldn’t remember what it was about. Turned out to be a very moving, beautifully written and performed piece about caring for an elderly family friend who then died. Despite this there were plenty of laughs and great effects…including him doing woodwork and making s’mores at times through the show.
Walked home and did some photo editing then watched Operation Mincemeat film and made jacket potato supper before going to see Marriage of Figaro with the Komische Oper Berlin and directed by the daring Serebrennikov. Talk about a complete contrast to the Carmen the other night! Loads of complex movements, mad upstairs downstairs set (both were visible throughout-this isn’t a photo collage), farce, mobile phone message projections and even a nude man jumping off stage through a window. I loved this company when I saw Offenbach’s Orpheus in the Underworld in Berlin last year and if you like camp OTT opera they are the masters! I saw and chatted to D&LMcD, CK and the B’s and Brian Cox the actor was a few rows in front of me (he left at the interval).
Home and straight to bed…. Hope I have a more focussed day tomorrow.
