Coral Tree

Late afternoon at Hyde Park for my daily walk around the two lakes. It’s a lovely place and I’m trying to do it every day!   The red flowers of the Indian Coral Tree stood out against the grey sky.
We’ve had rain showers on and off all day and very strong winds and it’s been much cooler brrr!!

In extras is a shot of a couple of the Morton Bay Fig trees at Hyde Park that are infected with the shot borer beetle.  You can see the limbs that are marked for amputation and as the beetle accelerates its activity in spring they’re rushing to cut back infected branches of all these big old trees in the hope they can be saved.
Fingers are crossed and we’re all hoping for the best. It would be terrible if lots of trees die off across the whole metro area!
Other countries affected by the same borer are California, Israel, Argentina and South Africa.
