Audi
Today was an unremarkable one of communication and admin with my incoming PhD students relating to the graduate courses that they will take. I also shopped for groceries. We had guests arriving from France, and I finally got around to hoovering once A had left to pick them up from the airport.
We were chatting over beers when the doorbell rang. A guy said that he'd been chatting with my neighbour about the Audi, and wondered whether I'd like him to take it away for me. Getting rid of it has been on my "to-do list" for a while so I welcomed the offer. It's not run for several years, but should be good for parts, so it seemed like a good deal. It was interesting to see how he winched it onto his trailer despite at least one of the wheels being seized.
I did think to ask whether he needed any paperwork, and confirmed that he'd declare it to be scrapped, but only afterwards did I think about the true scenario. I'm sure that my neighbour, fed up with the derelict car being in the drive had asked someone to come to offer to take it away. I'll bet he's fed up of our neglected garden, too, but it's too much to expect him to pay for someone to tidy it up!
Afterwards we all went to a nearby Indian restaurant - where we were the only patrons - and had a surprisingly good meal, once I'd sent back the IPA that was off.
