Alfriston
We travelled to Alfriston, East Sussex today where we are staying for a couple of nights so that we can go to nearby Glyndebourne tomorrow. Alfriston is a picturesque village in the Cuckmere valley with medieval houses, shops and pubs. Behind the main street is St Andrew's Church "the cathedral of the South Downs" with a size unexpected for a modest village community and dominating the Tye (village green). To the side is Clergy House, the National Trust's first property.
