Glengarriff
The sea is like a millpond and Ireland is bathed in warm sunshine. We are moored in Bantry Bay and the tenders took us into Glengarriff this afternoon. It's a small holiday resort and full of flowers. We found a footpath to a deserted beach but half way down it bumped into an Irishman pulling weeds out of a bank. He wass curious where we were from and within 5 minutes we were exchanging life stories! He was taking a break from building his new house and was proud to show it to us - out on a promontory with a sensational view. He told us the best path, where to see the sea eagles and seals, and where to get the best afternoon tea. He was right about all of it, and confirmed all our prejudices about the Irish!
