The family

This is a photo I took yesterday, but today I linked it with an earlier one and wanted to record this.

Yesterday morning we were waiting by the water at the Shore in Leith, waiting for Toast to open. We watched this family of swans glide by very slowly and serenely - it was quite mesmerising watching them. Then I counted - eight cygnets. Now I don’t have anywhere at home to see swans regularly, so maybe this is usual, but I thought it was rather a lot of cygnets for one family. Anyway it was good to see them

. . . and then Toast opened and we had the most delicious coffee and croissant. A lovely place to start the day. And we could get a bus right outside to take us into Edinburgh.

Today I remembered a swan that we saw back in April, in the same place just a bit further down. The extra photo is one I took then. The swan was on the nest, completely oblivious to the noise and the traffic and all the people, many watching. Someone told us that a couple nest there, in the same place, every year. Now I think this must be the same swan, we saw yesterday, well I like to think so anyway.
