A last perfect day in the Alps

This morning we went for a run with Xena before it got too hot, so at least she got some exercise before we travelled back to Klosters. We enjoyed our last breakfast at the hotel, I had a plant based bircher muesli which meant it was lactose free and it was yummy! We then left and had a very easy journey back over the San Bernardino Pass to Klosters, which is the third longest road tunnel in Switzerland. We started counting all the tunnels we went through but then got distracted, and it is safe to say that there were countless tunnels on our journey!

We had a light lunch at the apartment and then I started packing while Gavin washed the bikes down and packed them away in the store room. Our last day here is always so busy with packing everything away. He also had to take the patio furniture to the store room and got the car refuelled. Xena had a vet appointment for her 'passport check', it's a requirement that a vet has to deworm her and check she is microchipped before she is allowed to travel back into the UK. I finished packing and noticed that I only wore about 20% of what I brought here, as usual!

I took Xena for a last walk, when I took this photo. It feels so sad to say goodbye to these beautiful mountains, we will be leaving tomorrow with very heavy hearts. I was very pleased to see a few butterflies around including this Common Blue (in extras).

Now to make supper, make breakfast for when we are on the road (bircher muesli!) and also lunch. We plan to leave very early tomorrow morning, It will be a jolt to get back to normal life in Surrey again.

I am pleased to see they have found five bodies from the sailing accident of the yacht Bayesian. What a tragedy this has been! I wonder if the captain will be accused of negligence for his decision to moor offshore in that approaching storm? Interestingly, the yacht was renamed to Bayesian by Mike Lynch as he did his PhD thesis at Cambridge on Bayesian neural networks (a type of machine learning) and this is exactly the area that Tommy will be researching when he starts his PhD in November. Usually when people ask what Tommy will be researching and I say Bayesian theory, people had never heard of it before - this tragedy changes that.
