A Library day

Took a no 29 bus to Salisbury Road to go to the Crosscauseway branch of the National Library of Scotland. This is where maps are scanned and stored; I got to see the scanners, both conventional and more recent, and ask about the indexing,  data flow and storage systems. One of the current jobs is scanning the maps from the Wordie collection - Sir James Wordie was a Glaswegian geologist, and Antarctic explorer.

From there to have a quick look around at the book festival. Then to the main Library on George IV bridge; the blip is of a reproduction of a 1610 John Speed map, upsized to fit onto the doors which are the fire exit from the Renaissance material in the exhibition space. There was a Foundation meeting. Worked through the crowds on the High Street to get to the News Steps and across Princes Street.

No rain until later, though there was a boisterous West wind. 18C high.
