Loki, God of Mischief (Thursday 22nd August 2024)

It was sufficiently autumnal to have the company of Loki at C.'s this afternoon. In other news, Tesco's Meal Deals have gone up 10p.

Lozarithm's Lozarhythm Of The Day:
Van Morrison - Wild Mountain Thyme (recorded live, 23 May 1975, TheTroubadour, Los Angeles CA)
In 1955 the Irish musician Francis McPeake wrote the song Will Ye Go, Lassie, Go? and recorded it with the McPeake Family. He had adapted it from a song called The Braes Of Balquhither by Scots poet Robert Tannahill.
It quickly became a standard, variously also known as Blooming Heather, Wild Mountain Thyme and Purple Heather. The version I first knew, and possibly still my favourite, was by the Byrds from their album Fifth Dimension in 1966. Van Morrison recorded it for his album Hard Nose The Highway and performed it with the Caldonia Orchestra on the "It's Too Late To Stop Now" Tour, from which this live version comes.
