Non-hovering hover-fly
Another bitty day at work, lots of little things done, good that they were done done but not very personally fulfilling. After work went for our weekly swim in the pool - in this weather a 1 km of front crawl in the cool waters feels wonderful!
We had dinner while watching Le Tour - we normally had dinner at the kitchen table but we make the occasional exception - good to see a Brit doing well again.
After the stage was over I went out looking for something to blip. I tried a few flowers but settled on this bight little hover-fly that was having a rest on a poppy seed head. I think it's a male Sphaerophoria scripta but I could easily be wrong... Apparently the larvae eat aphids, which is good news as there aren't any ladybirds about at the moment.
