Sgwarnog: In the Field

High

Another day, another river.

To celebrate 16yo’s GCSE results we went out to lunch at The Veggie Cafe in Ilkley and for a potter around town.

The River Wharfe was running very high in the wakes of Storm Lilian. Considering Leeds-Bradford airport was closed, and the opening day of Leeds Festival significantly disrupted we only saw a few extra twigs and branches on the paths.

Down at the suspension bridge a couple of national journalists were trawling for quotes and photos in relation to the water quality. It sounded like they’d written their article already, and I’m not sure Mail Online would have  been interested in me laying the blame on how shareholder dividends in a privatised water industry leads to chronic underinvestment, rather than just the water companies themselves.

On reaching the other side of the river, 16yo noticed that she’d acquired a little friend - the first time we’d seen an Orange Ladybird in a while (extra).

Then we topped up on back to school items, with the A level journey beginning in ten days or so.
