Their Last Field

A couple of weeks ago a small flock of sheep appeared in the field behind our house.

The farmer was there this morning as I went out for a walk with Oreo.

He told me that this was their last destination before being taken for ‘culling’. They had been given a dose of wormer and have to wait for it to to take effect and be cleared from their system. They feed off grass only during the final weeks to help keep them clean. This minimises the risk of E.coli contamination of food.

As well as the older sheep there are a few of this year’s lambs. Some of them were born in this field.
