The Three Brethren
Today took us down to the Selkirk area in the Borders where we completed a 9.5 mile walk on part of the Southern Uplands Way. I have to admit that although there was some beautiful scenery of rolling hills, I much prefer the landscape to the north of Scotland with rugged mountains and lochs.
On the walk we climbed to The Three Brethren, a trio of massive, solidly built cairns dating back to the sixteenth century; their position ensures they are a popular objective and a splendid viewpoint. The Three Brethren cairns were built in the 1500s by the lairds of Yair, Selkirk and Philiphaugh to mark the boundary of their land and provide a good vantage point for viewing the surrounding lanscape, especially on a beautiful day like today.
One of the disadvantages of using a phone camera, especially on a bright day,is that you can't always see what you are blipping - hence you can't see the top of one of the cairns.
