Hawker in Flight
This morning I went over to Pensthorpe. It was quite a chilly start, but lovely and sunny and that seemed to bring the dragons and butterflies out. This is a migrant hawker dragonfly that kept flying around some vegetation that I was sitting near, my camera needed the sky behind for the autofocus to lock on. Please see a collage in extra of some cute ducklings, a flamingo chick and an echinacea.
Whilst having my salad for lunch I saw a reply to a blip comment by JohnRH saying there was a double headed engine leaving Sheringham at 1:15, so I quickly left and reached the crossing and JohnRH and W with 2 mins to spare! Photo in extras along with a collage showing what happened afterwards. I spotted some smoke which could be the start of a line side fire, John sprang into action and rang the fire service, they seemed to struggle to be clear where the fire was, so one of the men nearby and I looked the location up on whatthreewords (bizarrely we got different answers) and then I rang the railway to notify them so they could stop the trains (I think they might have already heard from the fire service). The fire engine arrived within 20 mins and John directed them where to go, the fire was out within 5-10 mins. This part of the heath caught fire either last year or the year before and spread over a large area, it is dangerous having steam trains run so close to vegetation. An exciting but unwelcome event.
