Go Ape!
How did I get persuaded to go to Go Ape? I’m not very good with heights and my knee makes climbing difficult. Well, I did it….and I’m still shaking lol
The first thing we had to do was climb a rope ladder…this was a challenge, but I managed it in my own ungainly way. I stood on the first platform and looked down and thought, “WTF am I doing here!!!!” I didn’t want to be defeated so I walked across the walkway and got to the swing across to a cargo net. Oh Lordy, stepping off a platform twenty feet up is soooo hard. I swung into the net but I couldn’t climb it. My knee just wouldn’t bend enough and it was an awkward time to find out my upper body strength is terrible. I wasn’t the only one who had to be helped up with a rope onto the next platform. It was then a zip wire. The whole of Rivington probably heard me yell as I plunged through the trees.
To start the next part we had to climb up another rope ladder…aaaargh. I kept going even though my hands were shaking. It was when I came to the wire where there were hanging ropes to hold onto as you walked along it. I turned to Hannah who was on the platform behind me and I said, “I can’t do it” “Yes you can.” “No I can’t” “Yes you can”….This carried on and my hands shook more and more. There was no going back so I just had to do it. I don’t know how I did it, but I did. The long zip was scary but brilliant. There were five stations and I didn’t do the last two. I couldn’t face climbing another rope ladder and there were lots of wobbly things that I knew I would struggle with.
I’m aching. I have a few little bruises. I am thrilled a did what I did. We all had a great time…but never ever again!!!
