Dedication of memorial for Halifax bomber MZ311
Halifax bomber MZ311 crashed on Cleeve Hill 80 years ago today.
A very moving ceremony took place today with military representatives, former service personnel, relatives of the Canadian and British aircrew a trumpeter and a piper. A large crowd gathered to pay their respects to the air crew returning from a mine laying mission on the French coast that crashed inexplicably into Cleeve Hill on its way home. As the piper played a lament a modern RAF turbo prop Airbus flew very low over the crowd.
