Paddling the Waters
Our actual day 1 in Copenhagen for me (Annie) and friends (after our slight drama yesterday needing an extra Swedish trip). We had a leisurely breakfast and catch-up in the morning (apart from the friend who went out for a Park Run), then headed into the city centre. We walked along one of the waterfronts to find some lunch, and I tried to channel my inner Chris for the Blip.
After lunch, we had a kayaking trip booked for 2 hours. I paired up with the one of my friends who is an extremely experienced kayaker, and went under her instruction from clueless steerer to vagely competant-ish. A very enjoyable way to see the city - and I hoped my arms would still work the next day!
After we dried off, we went for more of a city meander. Lots of beautiful water and lovely buildings. We stopped for a mid-afternoon snack in one of the waterside cafes (smoked trout for me). Refreshed, we set off again across more of the city.
There was a church with a spiral staircase that we could see across the city at all times, and had been recommended to us. My three friends bought sunset tickets to go up it, while I had run out of steam post-driving yesterday and kayaking today. I sat on the lawn while they climbed the spire to see the sunset. They did bring a glass of prosecco that they were given at the top down to me.
I headed back to our accommodation while they stayed out to get some street food. A lovely day in a beautiful city.
