There's A Polar Bear in Our Frigidaire!
Well ... not exactly! More like a Malamute on that rock over there.
This afternoon, we are docked in Sisimiut, which brings us officially into the Arctic region. According to a guide we had the other day, the word "Sisi" in Greenlandic means "the way a fox pounces on its prey" and "Miut" means "Place".
Shortly after we pulled alongside, I caught sight of a large pile of white fur up a hill lying on a rock. At first I thought it might be a Polar Bear, but no -- it is just a big, beautiful, very furry Greenland Dog having a nap. You might not like the fact that he is tied up with such a big chain, but apparently it is the law here that all such dogs be chained after they grow out of puppyhood.
For the first time since we arrived in Greenland, the sun is shining!
Extra: We were surprised to see a super yacht anchored near us this morning -- not a sight one expects to see this far north. I Googled the name (Samsara), and was surprised to learn that the owner is none other than J.K. Rowling of Harry Potter fame!
