Chain Gang

Right behind where my boat is parked up on the hard they are working on this anchor chain for a very large boat that I think is some sort of marine research vessel. It is undergoing a major fit out and I have watched them bring cranes in to lift fridges, water makers, ice makers, washing machines and god knows what else.

This chain is being prepared to go on soon. Each link in the chain is a lot bigger than the photo portrays. I reckon the length of each link would be close to 10 inches the width would be 6 inches and the thickness must be between 1.5 and 2 inches. You can see the lengths all laid out and colour coded. This could be to measure length of chain out. They had already palleted up at least 7 lengths before I took the photo so there is a lot of chain here. I dread to think how much it would cost.

If you needed to get rid of a body at sea wrap a few links around the waste and you would never see it again !!. Not that I need to get rid of any bodies mind you but you wouldn't need concrete gumboots with these chain links.
