Sleek, fast, incredibly daring
All day this field mouse has climbed to the top of my pollarded apple tree, which is covered in honeysuckle, to steal from the bird feeder which is hung out on a hook. He was averaging one run every four minutes this evening. I was able to stand near the feeder to photograph him without him noticing - extraordinary. In the afternoon I did a tight trim of the honeysuckle to deter pigeons who have found a way of stealing too and put in a bamboo as a walkway for the mouse but think, if the feeder is empty again tomorrow, I will give him the challenge of a wobbly branch of honeysuckle.
A mullein caterpillar was floating, dead, in the pond. I put it on the side and watched as huge dragonfly lay eggs for a while.. The caterpillar revived. I just love seeing what goes on in my garden,
