Lt Colonel Blair "Paddy" Mayne

Today has been a busy day, one with little time for photography.  This morning I had to go to Newtownards and I don’t go anywhere without a camera.  It was dull and rain was threatening.  Previously I have posted photos following the theme of Blair “Paddy” Mayne, so I was surprised to see a wall mural that I had not noticed before featuring the town’s famous son.

It is ironical that the mural is in a street (Mill St / High St) that is the very location where Blair Mayne died in a motor car accident in 1955, he was speeding in his sports motor car.

Here we see Blair Mayne is in a jeep, but also notice the reference to the Ards TT race, which passed through the town square, and again it was a terrible accident in which 8 spectators were killed and 40 injured in 1936 when a car lost control and drove into spectators.   As the result of the accident the Arts TT Races were ended for good.  Also notice the reference to the designer of F1 racing cars.

This was the only photograph I took today, but I like the fact that it has a story.
