In the heat an idle fly bloatedly beats against the window glass
A vacuum cleaner passes scurrying and stuttering along the corridor
Time and the hearts pulses pass
As dusts rise and fall upon the floor
Whilst a century ago a boy stands on a brothers knee
To see the soundless passing pipers play
For the crowding watchers stood upon the quay
And in the breeze the bunting sways
Obscuring unfamiliar smiles on familiar faded faces
Lost to distant graves and silenced voices
"What did he whisper?"
"Ypres!"
