Contrasts
After our swim when the sunny weather forecasted was late in arriving, I got a lift into Kirkwall to do what my Selkie driver called the Holy Trinity of shopping - Tesco, Lidl and Shearer’s. There was a cruise ship docked at them Hatston pier but apart from crowds round the Cathedral, the streets didn’t seem too busy.
It was like high summer and an Orcadian heatwave in Kirkwall while I was kitted out in my raincoat because Stromness had obviously been lagging behind on the sunshine stakes when I left. It caught up though at lunch time when I got back allowing me to spend two blissful hours in the garden lapping up the warmth and sunshine.
Wendy Selkie popped in on her way home from her afternoon shift at the cats’charity shop just as the clouds rolled in to give intermittent sunshine. I have been very lucky with the weather so far in Orkney. It has been surprisingly mild with any winds warm.
My blip shows a difference in styles noticed as I walked back from Shearer’s to the bus station.
