LIFEBOAT STATION

Along the golf road is the ruin of the first Lifeboat Station in Stromness.  It dates back to 1867 and was established following the loss of the Albion on 1st January 1866.
Sir Titus Salt donated the funds for the first lifeboat, and it was named Saltaire for him.
