Hive Beach
I've had quite an exciting day. You may have seen those programmes on TV where people who've maybe been adopted or otherwise separated from their birth parents wish to trace them. In some programmes the person learns that their parent died a short while before they were traced.
Back when I was a young man in the 1960s the world was a very different place. I think many of us were quite naive compared with young people of the same age today. I won't go into the detail but I and my girlfriend became parents but we didn't stay together. I continued to support my daughter but didn't have any contact apart from a little information that came to me from my mother.
I sent off a sample for a DNA test and as a result, today I was able to meet up with the person I hadn't seen since she was a babe in arms back in 1966. We'd exchanged messages for some months so we knew a little of each others lives. She and her husband were staying in Dorset so Marian and I arranged to meet up and enjoyed a meal at the Hive Beach Cafe. We all got on extremely well and had a fun time but it was a somewhat strange experience and it will take me some time to process it all. It was only after we'd gone our separate ways that I realised that I hadn't taken a photo of us together. Maybe that's good, I'm not sure that I'm quite ready to share her with you yet.
Dorset was a bit dull and rainy but it brightened up a lot in the afternoon.
