Common buzzard feather
I picked up this feather in the park recently. I think it’s one of the smaller primary feathers from the wing of a common buzzard (scientific name Buteo buteo). Really beautiful. If you zoom in on the fluffy parts at the base of the feather, the little structures are amazing. We don’t see this when the feather is in place in the wing. When a big bird drops a feather, we get a wee chance to ‘peer behind the curtain’!
