A quick trip to South America
Usual mix of rain and sun today. Caught up with my monthly plant blog this morning - still plenty of new ideas.
I had a Physio appointment at the hospital this afternoon, so afterwards I carried on down Glengallan Road to visit MKM to investigate a source of topsoil for some possible volunteer work at the Corran Halls.
On the way down I was briefly transported to Chile - if only real travel was that quick! On the verge stood a young Araucaria araucana, with a Cortaderia selloana growing in front of it. OK, switching out of botanical mode, a monkey puzzle tree and a pampas grass. Both of these plants are native to Chile and other parts of South America and might commonly be seen growing together there. I imagine the juxtaposition of the two here was accidental - the pampas grass has probably seeded in as it has done in many places in Oban.
Back home I found that the sun had emerged, so had the opportunity to sit out with a cuppa and a book for 20 minutes or so. Now time for a bit of gardening before dinner.
Quote of the Day: (Referring to the monkey puzzle) '‘No tree … has suffered so much from injudicious planting among inappropriate surroundings,” - a baronet-novelist-politician-horticulturalist, 1915.
