The Bully
I felt for my kestrel today this afternoon and I had promised myself I wouldn't post another kestrel for at least ..... a few hours...?
The Rook was harassing her on the wires and when she dropped for her prey he dived down making her miss her meal.
I'd actually gone down to the forest to grab a kingfisher which I did see fleetingly three times.
It's not been a great day frankly though as when Millie woke up she was limping badly and I cursed myself for not taking her to the vet last night. I ended up walking out with just a dog lead leaving her there for x-rays for the day. That is why I shot to the forest. Stupid really. There is limited reception down there.
Little scrap is home now but has to go in for surgery on Monday as her thigh bones aren't in their hip sockets as they should be. This though may not be the end of it at all as the procedure needs her to grow her bone marrow round the joint but she may just be too old for that at 22 weeks. If this doesn't work she is gong to have to have a hip replacement (both sides) and the best veterinary surgeon is in Sheffield and failing that Italy. NOW....
Tilly having only passed into the rainbow in the sky not too long ago it feels and not Insured, seemed to be barking in my ear at this point as I had spent hours in vet waiting rooms and did not want to go through this all again. Luckily Millie is Insured but honestly she is only 5 months old! AND Insurance isn't the point - well it is - but it isn't. I have grown to love her very very much and am feeling hugely upset by all this ghastly turn of events. Even Poppy was walking round trying to find her this afternoon.
I have fingers crossed that this first bout of surgery on Monday will do the trick but you know.........
On the plus side the vet was fabulous. (We changed Practises after, and let's name and shame them - the Dragon Vet couldn't put Tilly to sleep without huge trauma over about an hour - ours and hers! Hideous doesn't even cut the mustard.) Bitter? Oh yes I am. I would add to that their fee for coming to our house to do it (3 miles max) was £650 so we opted for taking her in.
I don't normally rant but I am today. Just had enough.
