Arrival

I got here.

Köln is warmer than Scotland. It was 31º at 5pm while I was waiting for my train from the airport to the city centre.

The journey reminded me why I rarely do these trips now. I queued 40 minutes to drop my bag*. Security was a miserable, heaving mass of humanity. The flight (Eurowings) was an hour late. The fattest man in Europe was sitting next to me on the plane.

However, it was worth it for the wonderful German sandwich I wolfed down in arrivals.

Other positives include 2 minutes (or it might have been 90 seconds) queuing at German passport control, and the very polite, helpful guy at the DB travel centre who helped me get a 24 hour travel pass for the meagre sum of €8.50 and coached me on how to validate it (I knew, but played along).

I am not sure about the young lady who got up to give me her seat on the tram. I mean I was grateful, but it did make me feel old.

The Blip is the airport railway station. It was hotter than 31º under that glass roof.

* Suspect that was Eurowings' fault for skimping on their service agents' service levels, and not something I can blame on EDI.
