"bat dance"

After a wonderful day exploring the Carlsbad Caverns in New Mexico, we went back that evening to watch the bats swarm out of the cave for their nightly feeding. The ranger asked for volunteers, and grandson D joined a small group of boys to do the "bat dance" to encourage the bats to come out of the cave. The boys did a great job, but the bats did not swarm out of the cave. We probably saw a couple of dozen, not the thousands that we were hoping to see.

All in all, though, it was a lovely day, with lovely people. :)
