Yard Birds
When I spotted a flash of yellow in the garden this afternoon, I grabbed a camera and shot outside, hoping for a better look. Happily, this American Redstart (a warbler) landed close enough for some shots. This is most likely a female, although it could also be a hatch-year male who hasn't grown his black and orange/red plumage yet. Like all warblers, she was extremely flitty and I was grateful for 20 fps which enabled me to get some in-focus shots before she zipped off. This is a species that breeds in our area in the summer so not an unusual bird to see in spring/summer/early fall but also not a common yardbird. Thanks to a pesticide free garden, she was finding plenty of tasty little things to eat.
I took Jax to daycare this morning while Hubs went back to the hospital and got an MRI of his lower spine, which has resulted in a referral to an orthopedist. Our regular doctor is on vacation, but took time to review the scans from the beach this morning and then had his nurse call us with the referral to the ortho (now scheduled for Tuesday). Of course, we are having perfect weather and Hubs is not happy about having to miss so many bike rides.
In other medical news, we thought Mom was having surgery to fix her trigger thumb, but I think there may have been a misunderstanding on the purpose of the appointment. It was her first visit to the hand surgeon, who decided that another injection was a better next step. Just one of the many times I wish they didn't live almost 3,000 miles away. At least a trigger thumb isn't life threatening, just very annoying for mom.
This morning I called our vet to leave a message to have Jax's tick/flea/heartworm treatment refilled. I was leaving a message and for some reason I just kept saying "flick and tea" instead of tick and flea. And then I started giggling - I finally got control of myself and finished my message. When I went to pick up the meds today, the women who work at reception said that listening to my message this morning had them all laughing and thanked me for starting their day off right. Honestly, I don' know why I couldn't get the words out. But glad I could make them laugh.
I've been losing weight again and am a bit lower than I'd like so Hubs bought me a giant chocolate chip cookie today. Not something I should be eating but I enjoyed every delicious bite. Won't make a habit of it though.
