Bank Holiday journey and sunshine
On days when we return to the mainland in the afternoon, we always feel time is a little bit wasted. Since it was a Bank Holiday, we could spend the day in the sunshine. We started by buying ingredients to make a dinner we could eat on the train. I'm getting a bit fed up with buying 'meal deals' for train journeys—they encourage bad eating habits.
In the afternoon, we decided to take a walk in the sun. The low tide had been especially noticeable all weekend, and looking out towards Portsmouth, it seemed like you could walk from Ryde to Southsea.
We stopped at a café for coffee and cake. The queue looked long at first, but after a few minutes, I realised it was mostly for the ice cream counter. A quick move around the people, and our coffees were easy to grab. It was lovely to spend time outside in the warm weather.
After tidying up, we walked to Pier Head, took the ferry, and caught the train. The ferry was busy, but the train was quiet. Although we'd bought a ticket to Waterloo, we decided to get off at Guildford and change at Surbiton. It got us back earlier than we would have otherwise. This allowed me to do some cleaning and organising ahead of our visitors later in the week. Since we had already eaten, we could enjoy an early night.
