Blue Skies and Mares’ Tails

Very enjoyable walk along the beach this morning.  The mares’ tails (cirrus uncinus) fairly caught the eye.

Seafarers say, “Mares’ tails and mackerel scales make tall ships carry low sails”, which, so the seafarers say, are a sure sign of turbulent weather to come.  The stronger the wind the longer the tails.

I’ll tell you tomorrow whether or not they were right.
