EXOTIC BIRD

This is a Pale-mandibled Aricari (Pteroglossus erythropygius);  related to Toucans.  Native to Equador and Peru but this one lives with his wife in the aviary at the zoo in Milwaukee.  Common and of least concern.

Bothe sexes look alike in coloration but the female's beak is a bit shorter than the male's. Fairly large birds they are about 40cm long and weigh between 175-250g.  Diet consists mostly of fruit but they will take large insects and the eggs and nestlings of other birds.
