Happy Wattle Day

I’ve never really paid much attention before but September 1 is National Wattle Day, and according to the propagandist booklet I picked up, wattle is the most unifying celebratory symbol of all that is good and gold about Australia. There was a guided wattle walk at the Arboretum showcasing 30 of the local species, focusing on their botanical (rather than emblematic) aspects. Very interesting, despite the blustery weather.

For those Aussie fathers upstaged by the wattle this year, Happy Father’s Day!

Still busy with visitors but hope to get back to everyone’s journals tomorrow or the next day!
