The Dordogne
Spent the morning settling Joana and Waleed into the house and packing before dropping the dog in kennels and going to Southampton Airport. It’s so easy and quick there. Had a holiday lunch of a Costa egg mayo sandwich accompanied by a glass of wine from the cafe next door chased down by a Cadbury’s whole nut from Smiths.
Landed in Bergerac airport which is practically a tin shed in a field. Out and on the road very quickly driving away on a departmental road that was almost a farm track. We learned later from B&C that we’d taken the back route out. We drove through golden light and this is a picture of the Dordogne river one of the times we crossed it. Initially the villages we passed through were shabby and seemed very empty but as we got nearer the river we passed many chateaux and started going through lovely towns like Beynac. We’ve rented a house in a village called Nadaillac-de-Rouge and it’s La Presbytère. Arrived at 8.30 as the sun had set and B and C were trying to get the babies to settle.
B cooked a delicious cassoulet and we ate outside in the warmth. Sadly looking ahead I think it’s going to rain all week, which is disappointing.
