Tannins from the forest …..
….. ….. ….. staining the the waters and beach, in Preservation Inlet, in Fiordland in New Zealand.
These tannins sit on the upper layer of water in the fiords, making it so dark that black corals grow nearer to the surface. I’ve been lucky enough to see these corals on earlier scuba diving trips.
Today we weren’t able to land, due to high swells coming in from the Tasman Sea, so couldn’t walk out to the lighthouse at Puysegur Point.
We did enjoy other walks though, through the forest in the lower reaches of Preservation Inlet. I’ll add another Inlet scene in Extras.
