Carlisle Castle
Today our plan was to visit the most sieged castle in the country, and also one of the most complete castles, as it was used by the Borders Regiment as their headquarters until 1959. There is an excellent military museum within the castle which we both enjoyed. Especially as I covers a lot of history about the Jacobites and Bonnie Prince Charlie. I've recently finished reading ‘Outlander’ and the sequel and am now on the third in the series. Jon has just started Outlander. All very topical.
So arriving here at 10.30 we were here until 2.30. Then found a cafe attached to the cathedral adjacent, for pea and mint soup for lunch. A quick walk around the city centre which was much like any other. Sadly lots of empty shops.
We were back at out tent by 5.30. It didn't rain all day and whilst overcast was otherwise warmish. It rained a bit this evening, but we have been relaxing in the fresh air. Ate a bits and pieces tea. Jon has been reading and I managed another chapter. So I'm up to 67400 words. I should be hitting 70,000 in the next few days.
Very pleased that my friend C is enjoying reading the first draft for me. So far she has read 10 chapters. Today I've written chapter 43. I can't have her catching me up!!! Still enjoying writing it, even if it does keep veering from my plan…
Packing up tomorrow and moving down to Nether Wasdale via Ambleside, to meet up with friends for the rest of the week.
