Day 7 - Armidale

We have passed through Armidale numerous times but have never had much time to explore. So today we collected brochures and maps from theTourist Information Centre and set off to discover Armidale.

The main street, Beardy Street, has a fascinating mix of Victorian and Art Deco styles. Tattersall’s Hotel started out as the Victorian styled Wellington Inn in 1854, before being renamed Tattersall’s in 1884. It received a complete Art Deco makeover in 1936 and was refurbished again in 2018.

‘Beardy Street’? It was called after Duval and Chandler who showed prospective squatters round the district and who had beards. Well, so they say.
