Day 7: The Imperial Hotel in Armidale

This hotel was built on the site of the Courthouse Hotel that was destroyed by fire in 1888. Established in 1889, The elaborate Imperial Hotel features extensive cast-iron friezework on the verandahs, bull nosed awnings, and extravagant parapets decorated with Grecian urns and pediments on arches. It was built with money from the Hillgrove gold mines. The owners used to provide a carriage to collect travellers from the railway station to stay in the hotel.

it is now Armidale's oldest surviving hotel. The interior retains an air of Victorian opulence.
