British Normandy memorial

Backblip! This is the British Normandy memorial which was unveiled earlier in the year and it is stunningly beautiful. Made of limestone and the story hand carved into the stones. It was made more dramatic by the silhouettes of soldiers, sailors, airmen and two nurses who were the 1475 service men and two women who died on D-Day. They stand in the meadows below the memorial facing Gold beach. I will add some extra photos to give some idea of what it looked like! The dogs came with us. We had been to Arromanche and seen the beach at low tide and the remains of the mulberry harbour ! Sian was completely blown away by the whole experience as was I! I had read about the installation but had not realised the extent of it and also to see the vast swathes of beaches that had to be crossed while the Hermans bombed them and strafed them!
