Now, as I see it......

Lisbon

A long day.  We had a short 6am flight from Norwich to Amsterdam and then transferred to another flight to Lisbon.  Of course, with check-in times and driving to the airport that meant we had to set the alarm for 2am, although we did have an early night.  We got to our hotel just after mid-day and fortunately the room was ready so we were able to check in, freshen up and then head out to find our way around.

The hotel was recommended in The Times earlier this year and is lovely, if in a poorer area but a short walk to the centre.  We did most of a recommended walking route which took us down to the main square by the river and then along to the 'Time Out' market.  That was a fascinating place; an old indoor market now reinvented with many food stalls and communal dining tables; see the extra shot.  You order your food at the stalls which means you can each order from somewhere different, and there are separate cafe and wine bars where you can get just the drink you want.  We settled for a glass of wine, a beer and two Pastel de Nata this afternoon but we'll go back and eat properly there one evening.

But not tonight.  It's about a half hour walk away from the hotel and after the early start and a long walk this afternoon we don't want to go far.  There's a little Italian place opposite the hotel so I think we'll just head over there later.

The main blip is one of the old trams that run around the city.  We're here until Friday so looking forward to seeing as much as possible.  I very much doubt I'll have any time for commenting until we're back.
