Re-entry
Oh my goodness me. I spent quite a bit of time deciding which of the two situations would make me more distressed. The actual situation whereby the first day in the office was grim, grim, grim, grey and wet. Or the hypothetical situation in which I had to go to the office and it was sunny outside (whether in Tain and/or Edinburgh). Hard to know.
The reality was a busy day with colleagues, mainly having fruitful conversations, of a more or less structured nature. Afterwards, I spent a bit of time in the office, and then I headed a little bit further south, to book group chez RB13. Magnificent food and a great evening with friends. The starters (as blipped) and the main course were south East Asian inspired. The dessert was more "Basque-ish". We spent little time on the book, which was generally not well liked. I enjoyed it, but could see the flaws in the plotting and the characterisation, both of which felt forced at times. The blurb for the book makes it feel as if there is a big secret at the heart of the book, but then the actual reveal is rather underwhelming. Well, it was a diverting read a few weeks ago, but I don't think I will remember it. We were talking about our upcoming 10th anniversary and how to mark it. One option is to do something - through dress or conduct - to memorialise one or more books we've read that have made a difference. Interesting idea.
Home through the damp murk of an early autumnal Edinburgh.
